Looking for music for show reel

By in announcements

Voyage (short) from Heiko Windisch on Vimeo.

When I first made this short blip for my hometown solo show “Voyage Fantastique” in 2008, it was an animated gif set to a Talking Heads song. I put it on YouTube along with the other shorts I made. Within a year, it was taken down when BMG spotted the clip.

Currently I’m working on a show reel of my work to be released later in the year. For this I’m looking for a nice background tune. If you are a musician and think that your sound would resonate well to my artwork, please get in contact with me. I’m looking for appx. 2 minutes of soundtrack, I’d credit the track and its creators in the video and wherever I publish the clip, of course. Deal? Write to me at heiko (at) heikowindisch.com

P.S. Not looking for anything exclusive or custom-made, of course. Just consult your back catalogue.

The Working Proof

By in announcements, store

The Working Proof have a print of mine featured in their shop this week. The print is a hand pulled linocut, in an edition of 50 on 300 gsm Hahnemühle watercolour paper. Check it out here!

Here’s a bit from The Working Proof‘s website:

The Working Proof seeks to promote art and social responsibility. Each print is paired with a charity of the artist’s choice, to which we are donating 15% of the sale of each print – creating what we believe to be a product with not just aesthetic, but social value. Besides showcasing emerging artists and great artwork, the intent of the Working Proof is to promote a variety of charities and to expose them to new supporters through the appreciation of art and creativity. We release a new print once a week, on Tuesdays at 1:30 pm, EST.

9 Out Of 99 Uses for a Pet Kangaroo - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More
This one was Lil’s idea, but she thought that I might execute it better. Hope I did.

Pop Art - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More
The most exciting jobs I had to date were product design jobs, e.g. the snow boards, the vodka flasks. I would love to get more! In the meantime, I’ll just make up my own.

The Z of all ABCs - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

One route to success on threadless is making an alphabet shirt. Alphabet shirts are a fad. I don’t really like alphabet shirts, so I wanted to make a shirt that would be the one to stop all alphabet shirts. Please vote if you can! Thank you!

Illustrative 2009 Berlin

By in shows

I’ll be showcasing some work of mine at this year’s Illustrative Festival in Berlin.

Berlin Oct 16 – Nov 1, 2009
Opening (invitation only) Oct 15, 2009, 7pm
Villa Elisabeth, Invalidenstr. 3, 10115 Berlin
Opening hours: Every day 11am to 8pm

One of the items on display will be a totem-like installation of stacked cubes. Those are only two out of ten.

When I first went to the hardware store to have some wood cut for the cubes, a petty feud started between the clerk in the wood department and the guy in the paint and glue department. Confronted with the task of cutting me some mdf for a cube the wood guy opted for a spiral cut, with 4 sides of equal lenghts. When I went to the glue department, the clerk there, a self-described learned carpenter, dismissed the cut of the wood as questionable, himself preferring a cross-cut. He then showed me how to glue the cube using duct tape.

The next day I went to the store to get more wood. I told the wood clerk what the paint guy had said. The wood guy said that he was a student of architecture, his cut was structurally superior and anyway, a carpenter, eh, he don’t know jack, “don’t even need a high school degree for that!”.
I however somehow preferred the cross cut, as it was slightly easier to assemble (and made more sense to me), and asked the wood clerk to cut it like that each time I returned. He was friendly while doing so and all, but by the third time I went in to refill my wood supply, the clerk was gone. I haven’t seen him since.
