Alex McLeod Landscapes http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/08/17/alex-mcleod-landscapes/ http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/08/17/alex-mcleod-landscapes/#comments Tue, 17 Aug 2010 12:37:04 +0000 http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/?p=322

Alex McLeod creates some of the most convincing and amazing digital landscapes I’ve ever seen. It smells like epoxy, styrofoam and wood glue, but it’s all virtual. He has two solo shows coming up soon: One at Angell Gallery in Toronto (opens August 26th), the other at Anno Domini in San Jose. Thumbs up! via My Love For You

Adidas Star Wars sneakers http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/08/15/adidas-star-wars-sneakers/ http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/08/15/adidas-star-wars-sneakers/#comments Sun, 15 Aug 2010 01:40:00 +0000 http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/?p=302 darth vader sneakers (c)adidas

When I was about 14, I thought that adidas was the only acceptable brand of clothing on the planet. I was planning on slowly phasing out my entire wardrobe in favour of the three stripes. At the same time, I knew there was such a thing as Star Wars, but I did not care about it a bit. Nowadays, I don’t own any adidas pieces anymore (apart from a pair of running shoes I got in 1998 and a 1982 style German World Cup Jersey), but I’m more into Star Wars, even if I could do without the newer trilogy.
These days adidas and the Star Wars franchise have partnered up to deliver some fun sneakers inspired by characters from George Lucas’s mythology. I don’t really wear sneakers myself, but I like the aesthetics, and those are nice to look at.
More after the jump.

The late middle ages must have been a horrific time to live in. Hell was still a real place and it lurked behind every corner. But look at this magnificent piece of imagery… found at Sci-Fi-O-Rama, amongst hours worth of other magnificent things. Instant Bookmark!

It would have been cooler as a Van http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/07/15/it-would-have-been-cooler-as-a-van/ http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/07/15/it-would-have-been-cooler-as-a-van/#comments Thu, 15 Jul 2010 14:30:13 +0000 http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/?p=236

The consuming public never gets tired of references to popular culture. Anyone who spent their formative years in the 1980s would get teary eyed for a project like “It would have been cooler as a van”. Designer Brandon Ortwein takes famous vehicles from pop culture past and turns them into vans. He even has a DeLorean van. Imagine that! Link.

The Wisdom of Alex Noriega http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/07/05/the-wisdom-of-alex-noriega/ http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/07/05/the-wisdom-of-alex-noriega/#comments Mon, 05 Jul 2010 17:40:11 +0000 http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/?p=214

Alex Noriega is an illustrator from Barcelona. I’ve been following his work for some time now and it’s hard to think of many others who are as funny as he is. Now he’s started a blog where he fuses his humour with his illustration skills. On Stuff No-One Told Me, he posts small pictures with captions that are like zen to the modern urban illustrator. Or everyone else.

Note on the World Cup Song http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/07/03/note-on-the-world-cup-song/ http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/2010/07/03/note-on-the-world-cup-song/#comments Sat, 03 Jul 2010 21:57:53 +0000 http://www.heikowindisch.com/blog/?p=204

Now that the Football/Soccer World Cup is only one week shy of being history, you’ve probably heard that Shakira Song a million times. The melody is new to the average western ear, but apparently not to most of Africa. I find the original, recorded 1986 by the Golden Sounds, to be fantastic. It’s got a great cassette tape vibe to it, and the vocal harmonies can’t be beat. Also, even though it seems to be made almost entirely with synthesizers, it sounds less artifical than the recent cover.
