This is another experiment with polymer clay. About 4 fingerwidths high, painted with acylics. Next time I will try concave eyes instead of his bulging ones here. What do you think?

Australian Design and Illustration hub Australian Infront are redesigning their website and to celebrate they are holding an exhibition, the pieces in which were submitted by the users of the site. The above was my entry. Enjoy!

After several months I again had the time to make a little weekend project. No plan, no concept, just experimenting. Now that I think about it I might make a book out of it. What do you think?

Unheimlich (uncanny, scary) is the new version of an older illustration of mine that I started in 2009 but abandoned somewhere along the way because I ran into a dead end with it. Last week I rediscovered it in a folder and set to refurbish it with some new critters, an experiment for the background and some colour. “Unheimlich” ist die neue Version einer Illustration von 2009, die ich damals kurz vor dem Ziel liegengelassen hatte, weil irgendwie die Luft raus war. Letzte Woche habe ich sie dann in einem alten Ordner wiedergefunden und habe angefangen sie mit neuen Charakteren, einem Experiment für den Hintergrund und ein wenig Farbe aufzumotzen. What has happened in the last weeks? Spent some time in Melbourne (such a great city!), applied for a few things (good news coming soon!), started working on a calendar, of which you can see one picture above. Stay tuned for more, it’ll be coming soon!

For this year’s Border Art Prize I decided – being a resident of the Gold Coast now – to submit a painting. The concept for “Crocodile” had been sitting in my sketch book for some time, as much as me wanting to work with a long canvas. Unfortunately, size restrictions for the Prize meant that I couldn’t use the even wider canvas I had purchased earlier, but a 36 x 12 inch frame did the job just as well. At first I had thought about making a live webcast of the painting process, but my messy work habits (with frequent breaks and making up my mind on-the-go about which pattern to use for tree bark) meant that it wouldn’t have made much sense. So here’s the edited version, sped up 64 times to save time. Hope you enjoy!

It’s called “The Temple”. It’s about religion, sacrifices, futility of repentance, the search for deliverance. Or what do you think?
